    Sometimes, but not always.

Again though the real problem is America has only 60% vaccination rates. Their hospital networks likely won't be able to handle that many people getting severely sick ... especially if you look at the levels they operate at. They operate day to day right now at around an 80% rate. Was higher before covid but it is lower now. The other issue is the amount of people that can tend to those individuals. We have had a mounting shortage of workers in healthcare for YEARS. I will also add that they aren't training enough physicians and especially n the US they take the AMERICAN way of solving things and have been using mid-level providers as an alternative which is not the solution. A NP is not equal to a physician.

It isn't like each strain of the flu gets weaker and weaker. Hence why we have flu pandemics every so often.
The good thing for the NBA is all the players are vaxed so no need to ban those players from crossing the border. I honestly don't think Canada can economically handle closing the border with the USA again.

At some point this will shift from pandemic to endemic and omicron seems (fingers crossed) likely to make that happen. If the sports leagues stop testing those who are vaxed and have no symptoms they wouldn't be having these roster issues.

Closing the border and travel bans don't really do much. So may as well keep those things open and going. Especially this time of year I don't think there is a ton of travel tourist wise from America. I could be wrong about that though I am not a travel expert.

Anyhow - this discussions should probably be moved to the more appropriate thread
we said that before but it keeps creeping up and given that games keep getting cancelled and this is the reason why.. perhaps just leave it until games are back.

Happy for derozen's success in Chicago, while I recognize we needed to trade him, he was always good to Toronto and Canada.

            • Interested to see if any of these older fringe guys can use this as a opportunity to extend their careers a bit. Isiah Thomas got 10 days to make a impact. C.J miles is signing with the celtics. Would be a good story if someone can revamp their careers with all the opportunity out there

Sounds like the league is considering going further to require teams to add players to get a minimum roster eligible to play. Think that would be a good idea on many levels, including giving vets another chance and income.

That means more players tested positive?

The Raptors have also signed Nik Stauskas to (presumably) the same type of deal.

NBA is allowing teams to sign one guy for every player that has covid. Pascal, Banton and Trent are out.. so we got 3 guys to replace them (Stauskas is the 3rd).

                          • The Raptors have placed point guards Fred VanVleet and Malachi Flynn in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link). Toronto now has five players in the protocols, including three starters.

In order to address the newly-created hole in their backcourt, the Raptors intend to sign G League guard Tremont Waters to a 10-day contract via the hardship exception, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Toronto also reportedly lined up hardship deals with Brandon Goodwin, Juwan Morgan, and Nik Stauskas on Monday, so Waters will be their fourth 10-day addition. None of those deals are official yet.

Waters, who will turn 24 next month, was selected by the Celtics with the 51st overall pick in the 2019 draft and spent his first two professional seasons as a two-way player in Boston. After the C’s opted not to bring him back for the 2021/22 season, he joined the Wisconsin Herd – Milwaukee’s G League affiliate – and has averaged 17.2 PPG, 6.0 APG, and 2.7 SPG on .421/.364/.714 shooting in 13 NBAGL games (31.5 MPG) this season.
Due to the NBA’s new temporary roster rules, Waters’ deal won’t count against Toronto’s team salary for cap or tax purposes.
