Pro athletes are the most overpaid people on the planet and it ain't close.

A borderline all star like Lowry is somehow making 30+ million a year. John Wall i believe will be making 40+ million/year in the last 2-3 years of his contract. In baseball, it sounds like someone will offer Bryce Harper 500 million dollars(the Yankees?). That's too much money for people who play a KIDS game for a living. It's a joke.

There's no way these people should be making more money than doctors or nurses, military, lawyers etc -- specially DOCTORS and the military. Did i say doctors?

And some of these multi millionaire athletes can't even play 20-25 mins in the 2nd game of a back to back lol. It's just wrong.
Did you take high school economics?

Athletes are underpaid. Actually, everyone is underpaid who get high, but rational salaries.

Not when you look at what these superstar athletes bring is as revenue. The max contract is actually underpaying someone like Lebron james who is able to generate hundreds of millions for whatever franchise he plays for, ticket sale, jerseys sale merchandise that was sold in Cleveland strictly because of lebron james is way more than the franchise is allowed to pay him. These superstar are actually underpaid when you look at what their worth to the franchise. There was a article just today that talks about how both times lebron left Cleveland there has been a recession which can be attributed to no one giving a fuck about the team anymore. The tough part is athletes who are not pure superstars who get paid the same as lebron, does kyle lowry of john wall bring in as much money as lebron? not even close but Kyle probably brings a net dollars worth more then his contract. However when your losing like john wall is right not that contract is probably a negative assets to the wizards. These guys are making this much cause of people like us, following every move the team makes and clamoring for more and more insight into the team and players lives. If you don't like it you should stop following sports cause the demand of the fans is what drives these guys salarys. Im happy for NBA players their one of the few sports that actually get paid what they deserve in term of income they bring in. A star NFL players contract is barely guaranteed and can be cut at the drop of the hat.

Its still corporate greed at its finest. Theyve priced out Joe lunchpail from even sitting in the upper bowl with his kid. They move teams from loyal fans without an oz. Of remorse. And they schedule so many games that some are meaningless and the star players dont show up.

They'd all be still wildly rich if they scaled it back a bit. I understand why they dont, but I also think it's fine for people to feel a type of way about it. People feel emotionally attached. Players feel emotionally attached. To business men, we're all a walking dollar sign.

Hell nah you're wrong on this buddy

First, like I said, athletes get rational salaries, meaning there are really just few people who actually make it(long-term)...

Second, this ain't no corporate greed. If athletes "scaled it back" a bit, then all the profit would go straight to owners pockets.

                Go after drug industry, Keon.

Agreed. Sports teams are better when the average person can support them and go to the games. It feels more genuine. Instead, in Toronto for example, it’s turned into a status symbol to have tickets in the lower bowl, you don’t even have to show up. Turns into a bunch of ignorant assholes who don’t even care about the team showing up refusing to ruffle their nice white shirts with the team shirt while people like you and me are sitting at home watching on the TV.

So are iron workers, rig workers, miners, military, police, firemen, etc

I dont want to get too far on the socialist side cause I agree ith you guys, but I dont wanna hear the physical part. Everybody on the planet knows that about sports but we all still do it cause its FUN. That's the thing to remember is their job is fun as fuck. Take away the money and make it 80000 base pay and I'd still kil to play

But Rocwell is right it’s probably not feasible from a business standpoint. I don’t know the numbers but profit is the biggest motivator. It provides the best product anyways so it is what it is.

Cosign, the physical toll aspect of the argument is washed.

Early ear players of sports before salary floors, collective bargaining, and sports medicine, care for workers the toll players took on, and amateurs risked without the meager benefit made that aspect of the argument salient. A journeyman in the 50s-80s even 90s literally sacrificed their bodies to take part. And many of the legacy players and best known icons wear their injuries physical and mental. But nowadays that really isn't the case for the vast majority. Or at least isn't as balanced with income potential to offset them.
