  • You guys didn't want the rebuild when I was talking about it lol

let's be real. Most people wanted another Kawhi hit to get high and get back in the saddle.

I always believed Fred and Pascal are not the right foundational pieces

That rebuild was 2 seasons late.
Took way too long for Masai to shake off that championship hangover.
Can't afford to be reactive in this league.
We need an aggressive, creative exec. Masai is washed.
Quite frankly if they started a rebuild (in the classic sense) two years ago, the team would likely look a lot like it does today.

You know who did start their rebuild 2 years ago? Detroit.

        • I never understood goofy shit like this thread without at least proposing who you think can/will come in with the level of respect Masai has, and will do a better job than Masai has.

Weren't you even against the Demar-Kawhi trade at the time Claw? I seem to recall anyway ...

But ya, you don't trade everyone that helped us that ring, a year after we got it - You know how bad that makes you look as an organization?

Anyway, as I said, this thread is goofy troll clickbait. Beware.

            This this this.

Scottie, RJ, IQ, Dick, picks galore over the next few years, solid glue C in Poeltl, try and bring Gary back on an affordable bench deal, KO as a solid first big off the bench .. those are all legit pieces to build around. We're fiine.

What would have happened with the exact return for OG and Pascal but actually got a decent return for FVV at the high?

                • Stupid thread. I understand people being pissed off. And the less they know, the easier it is to point fingers and call for wholesale changes. What is the purpose of owning a basketball franchise? Here is the way the owners see it, the people who will ultimately decide on Masai's future in Toronto.

Number 1 is increasing the value of the franchise. Raptors were worth just over $400 million when Masai took over in 2013. 2023 the Raptors were worth $4.1 billion. True, the entire NBA has seen a huge increase. But the 2013 value placed them 21st of 30. The 2023 value placed them 10th. Masai has done a phenomenal job in that regard.

Then comes profitability and winning. Masai has always done his best in the profitability area. Even while the team was having a lot of regular season success, he kept an eye on the bottom line. He made his own job more difficult by giving away future draft assets for that very reason. Ownership knows that.

Tearing down a team while it's still competitive is destructive to the franchise and the brand, even if it seems the most sensible thing to do for potential future success for some fans. This season was horrible, but when the one year of Jalen McDaniels contract is the worst on the books, the team is in good shape.

Masai might not get a raise in 2026, but as things sit now, he'll be around until then, no matter how many tantrums some fans will throw.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

I believe that would have been Grayson Allen and a Milwaukee picl...not sure if it was an FRP or SRP, but either way it wasn't going to be fantastic. I'd rather have whatever cap space we may have ended up as a result of letting FVV walk, if that was the best offer.

Yeah Grange said it was Allen and a future pick. The problem was we needed a PG without Fred around. Not just to finish last season but also to start this season. We would not have been able to afford Dennis without dipping into the tax.

Of course the other side of the coin was that if we took that Bucks offer they would have left them with no assets to get Dame (Allen and that first were part of that trade). And if they kept Jrue, Boston wouldn't have been able to move on him. So that was a bit of a trickle down effect.

lol. You can't just quickly gloss over the: "True, the entire NBA has seen a huge increase" qualifier if you're also using that as your Number 1 criteria for evaluating competence and success.

Charlottle Hornets franchise value increased from $340M to over $3B, during the same period, and Michael Jordan was arguably the worst owner / front office executive in the NBA.

He also showed the rankings. Raptors went from 21st to 9th.

Hornets despite being sold for $3B went from 29th to 27th.

So under Masai's tenure the Toronto Raptors have grown in relation to other franchises.

                          • And that also includes time in Tampa and a season with no home crowd.

Every single team's value went up.
Even the Pistons from 400M to 3.1B

But the past two drafts had been talent rich, the team could have been a lot better in 3 to 5 years.
