Clutch Stats are the new shiny shiny thing ...
So borrowing from the old Tim and Sid tag line... are they Super Stats or Meaningless Numbers....
I am on your side of the fence on this...I think they are interesting to look at but thats all..
Just thinking back to Mo Petes last second shot to tie the game in Washington...Clutch stat or Horseshoe ?
A bit hard to separate, because very good teams are generally very good in clutch situations but any given year there are also a few teams with a lot of clutch wins who don't necessarily go deep into the playoffs.

Interestingly, two years ago that ECF Raptors team was 32-19, good for #3 overall in clutch W% (https://stats.nba.com/teams/clutch-t...gular%20Season). Same coach and same star players were 25-24 last season and are 13-12 so far this season. Three years ago they were 22-21. Seems like a trend with one outlier.

The last 5 seasons just for fun:

Season NBA Champion Clutch W% Clutch Rank

    16-17 GSW .640 #3
    15-16 CLE .576 #9
    14-15 GSW .746 #1
    13-14 SAS .733 #1
    12-13 MIA .800 #1

    • Here is the progress for the Boston Celtics under Brad the GOAT Stevens in clutch games:

      14-15 .444 #26
      15-16 .543 #14 (1st full year with IT)
      16-17 .653 #2 (2nd full year with IT)
      17-18 .688 #2 (1st year with Kyrie)

Just not a big believer in this concept of clutch stats... its marketing.....

Games are also won or lost at different points in the contest... The game against Memphis was won and closed out between the 10 mintue and 5:30 minute marks of the 4th Q... This didn't happen during the clutch stat period of last 5 minutes but thats when the Raps landed a left hook to the head of the Grizz and then hit them with an 14 to 6 run that knocked them out of the game.... Clutch shots and plays were made for sure during that stretch of time...just not during the new spreadsheet jockeys defined parameters..of last 5 minutes.

Good players somehow make good coaches.... funny how that works...

Isaiah Thomas has only been good under brad Stevens. Kyrie Irving went from "iso, bad defense, can't win without lebron" to "mvp??"

I can't believe there's still people refusing to give Stevens credit. I mean look what happened when they switched scoring point guards. Maybe it was LeBron that needed kyrie? (/semi pink font)

              • The 2 most respected names in the sport that have never played the game (lowe and woj) were on the lowe post podcast. They seem to think the cavs room is completely fractured, and no trade will fix it. Also LeBron is adios in the summer

Guys, It's almost reaching the point where raps are the favorite in a cavs series...just stay the course...stay the course....

LeBron sees the writing on the wall. Only thing that matters to him is another title or 2 before he's old.

I'd say Houston, San Anton are front runners. Don't discount Philly, or even golden State for the all time corn ball decision

                    • Signing in Houston would be just as bad as signing in Golden State imo.

Joining 2 MVPs is worse than joining 1

                        • Hard to see him going out west tbh. I mean, HOU and SAS would really be the only two options if he is serious about beating GSW, unless he joins them of course. I don't see anyway he stays in CLE next season. You think Ainge would take him if he showed interest? That would hilarious, Irving would probably have a stroke!

                              Good points...

You might consider that Thomas had spent his time prior to landing in Boston with the Kings and the Suns..

With the Kings he didn't see the floor time he did in Boston as they were hell bent on justifying picking the Mormon King ..Jimmer.... but he quickly eclipsed the BYU bust and was putting up good numbers before the Kings being the Kings of comedy traded him to the Suns for reasons only they know...

He got traded to the Suns for some magic beans where he landed and had to play in their 12 point guard system behind Bledsoe and Dragic ...The Suns are about as clever as the Kings and they quickly lost both Dragic and Thomas .. Thomas was moved to Boston in 2015 who had a hole at the position (Smart couldn't score then either) Thomas quickly made good on his opportunity to be the lead PG and make some noise with his game he had developed in Sacto....

Was it stevens who made Thomas as good as he was in that two year stint in boston.. or was it Thomas making the most of an opportunity..... both good arguments....

I will go with the player making the most of his situation....
Is brad a good coach.. yes...
Is he the deity he gets made out to be... No.

Why? Houston clearly won't beat golden State as currently constructed. He wouldn't be buying a ring like Durant did
