Can someone please clarify for me our status for Oympics-are we in or out?

We're in the qualifying tourney (there are three of them) this summer. Winner of each qualifier gets one of the last three spots for the Olympics. We have to win our qualifier first, if we do then we are in the Olympics. I think we are pegged as a slight favourite to win right now.

Is this an apples to apples comparison cause when you think about it .. Hockey Olympics is played during their season but NBA
makes it so that players have to give up part of their summer . When the World Championship is played after the season a lot of stars in the NHL say no cause it is their vacation time ..

Actually most of the stars that say no do so because they are either a) still playing in the playoffs or b) ravaged from a long season and playoff run. It's also a secondary event. The Olympics is the biggest international event for both sports. The participation in the whc would also be much higher if it was mid august like the summer Olympics.

I can accept guys backing out because of injury or maybe a huge contract negotiation taking place, but because it cuts into their "vacation time" every 4th summer as you are suggesting? That is weak.
