Sabonis has average to below average tools but above average instincts, IQ and hustle. 9 is too high to take him.
He's got good BBL genes, his dad is a legend.

He will also make effort in giving JV touches and should have good chemistry with him.

9 might be too high but he isn't going to drop below that much, so it isn't an overreach.

I would still prefer Skal or Davis over him but if Masai thinks he will be a better fit then he should go for it.

      • Anyone share the notion that with a whack of new coaches out there (9 of em !) who will want their kinda players combined with more than few GM's who are ready to set up shop and make some moves .. some bold ....some not...

Colangelo to try to field an actual team in Philly...
Thibs who will want to inject a little experience into his really young core.....
Orlando who perpetually seem to have a lot of talent but none if it really meshing nicely....
Danny Ainge in his quest for the holy grail of a superstar and lots of toys to play with ....
and the laugh a minute front office of the Excremento Kings who are capable of just about anything....

That a lot of draft picks and bodies will be moving around the board at a dizzying pace....including our 9th ?
There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Yes, it should be a fun evening. While teams like Philly & Celtics have a wealth of picks I am not sure that is a large advantage with the stages of their current roster development. As you noted, easier said than done flogging your picks (especially the late ones) for a credible/proven experienced talent.

          • Don't know if it is worth creating a whole new thread but we should do a Raps predictions for #9 and #27, as well as a talent board for the top 10 (as in the top ten best players, not draft order)

Pretty sure we worked out Dejounte Murray during the playoffs.

We may have spoken with Davis and Skal at the combine, but not sure.

Dan Tolzman's video from today said they have nailed down the players they would like with the 27th pick and have to concentrate on the #9 now, so we may be seeing a few #9 names pop up for workouts this week.

If the Raptors draft him, they will stay the most followed NBA team in Lithuania. Imagine the commercial possibilities, almost like drafting Yao Ming.
why i like the idea of sabonis and zhou. i am not sure how international jersey sales and tv money gets spread around the league but if the raptors get a dominant share of their own jersey/gear sales and extra bit of money for being in demand on tv then those two players are super good for the franchise.

                              • Draftexpress still has it as the board's two faves - Ellenson vs. Poeltl

Both look like guaranteed production - points and rebounds - to me.
