Because they want a significant add beyond or instead of running it back ota "keep all our key guys"
Sure, but these other teams that are capped will have just as much trouble adding as we would. It's either a silly thing to say or an uninformed thing to say, one or the other.

Do you think our vets like Fred and Pascal can thrive under Darko's supposedly coaching style/philosophy?
Sure. Pascal was excellent anyway so I'm not worried about him. Fred should see a resurgence just with his minutes scaled back and a return to his career shooting averages. Any bonus from coaching will be just that - a bonus.

It seems kinda goofy that other teams can carry 2 or 3 superstars but we can't carry one and all the talk is about re-signing our own as some kinda win. Or letting our decent players walk since were cap strung....
We can afford financially to run it back and be right at the cap with the current roster.

Do you want to be capped out with this roster?

        I sure as hell don't.

What do you consider to be the "cap"?

We'll be well above the cap with this roster. Near the tax line. Perfectly capable of going above the tax line should a significant move to improve become available to us. What exactly do you mean by capped out?

No way to add to the roster except via trade.

Well, there are exceptions! But yeah, any half decent team won’t have cap room, that’s how it works.

I'd think that only a half decent team would have loads of cap room. The problem is paying Pascal and Fred like super stars and more in their next contracts.

Nah, you look at the teams with lots of cap space and they are either terrible, or were decent but only have cap room because most of their good players are leaving.

Pascal is all-NBA. That’s a max player no matter how you slice it. Fred is not being paid like a superstar at all. 30M is not superstar money in this cap.

A silly thing not to say is how 14/17 teams with less money made the playoffs and we didnt ie their money is getting results

You may have sorted that column incorrectly. Of all playoff teams, only Memphis, NY and Atlanta had lower payrolls than Toronto did. Toronto had the 19th highest team payroll:

I meant less money (to spend) than us

                          • Basically saying the teams that made the playoffs dont have to justify being capped out. Dan is trying to justify spending the same amount as them for a team that until proven otherwise is on the outside looking in

Thank god you are not the decision maker of this team because this is the most irresponsible and dumbest take of the offseason so far even how true it is in terms of the value over the denominator it is.

29 year old declining player at both ends of the court is not worth 30 million no matter what the fuck is the current cap
