At the moment? BKN is a playoff team and they are dumping everyone. Raptors were a playoff team under Triano for awhile.
Being top 6 in the East conference doesn't help a team in the West. Sixer's would dominant the NCAA. Means nothing.

Well, but your logic is inconsistent.

Like Phoenix isn't a playoff team by your definition because they don't make it in the West despite clearly being a playoff calibre team (for this definition lets say top 16 in the league) but playing in a hard conference.

But Miami isn't a playoff team either despite the fact that they will very likely make the playoffs despite not clearly being a playoff calibre team because their conference sucks.

You can't have this both ways. Unless Phoenix and Miami both miss the playoffs, calling neither playoff teams is logically inconsistent.

      5. GV can't. This his DJ on defense. Playing defense means avoiding things that can't work.
Should have read Thibs hides DJ. SVG hid DJ too. Autocorrect. Defensive coach hide bad matchups. Nobody exploits Parker or Ginobili

Cave held OKC to under 100.

But you can't hide someone always and its very difficult to hide multiple players.

The Raptors starting lineup for example. Who was Greivis supposed to guard on the Pistons especially if you want to rest Lowry a bit for offense.

Both Greivis and Lowry were destroyed by Augustin.

At some point, you have no one left?

If you put Ross/Demar on him, you have the point guards taking wing players who they aren't big enough to handle.

Defensive coaches play poor defender but nobody notices. Casey let's guys score at will against poor defenders and it is noticeable. TH isn't going to score allowing him to be scored on is unacceptable. GV at least is an offensive player and the net could become positive. Playing a player that isn't going to be given scoring chances while get torched defensively makes no sense.

The Raptors held the Clippers, the #1 offense in the NBA currently to under 100 this season. OKC is for the season #19 (admittedly with their extensive early season injuries lowering that number). But even with them back, its not a top 5 number.

I'm no Pyscho fan but the Raptors have 4 reasonable NBA big men (5 if you count James Johnson as a 4, I don't think Hayes is any good), so he's going to play (and he played not that many minutes in that game in fact he played 6 minutes and was a +6). Also, Hansborough hasnt been the problem with this team defensively. He's not a great player but his plus minus numbers have been steller surprisingly.

Even when getting killed by Monroe, he was a +6.

It isn't about a game. Cabs have stopped guard penetration and aren't getting beat under the rim while playing Love. It has been improving for awhile. Torontos defense is bad because guys are dunking against the set defense.

Guys can be rested against poor matchups. Why is Hayes on the roster if he isn't used to stop Monrtoe. Why have JJ if it isn't to prevent DJ Augustine to set career highs. Pistons are not a good team and the game was closer then it should have been with Drummond basically useless and Jennings out.

                    • Perimeter defenders are either undersized, (Lowry, Williams), lacking quickness (Vasquez, DD) weak and fundamentally poor (Ross).

Casey system covered it up for a while, but yeah,no longer.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Which is why This uses Butler on the ball and CHA uses MKG. There is only one ball teams don't need 5 defenders to stop layups. This is why JJ never being used is perplexing. Unable to stop DJ August in a set defense is just terrible defense.

                          Thank you!

It's like "I really like my doctor, but he keeps giving me viagra instead of penicillin"

Coaching should be judged by his ability to coach, not be friends with the team...(shouldn't have to say to a point, but interwebz)
It's not just about likeability, it's about respectability. And believe it or not, all the players gave Casey the thumbs up in exit interviews next year.

A better analogy is that you have a team of doctors that graduated the top of their class. Some are young, some have years of experience in the field. Some think they could do your job (if they felt like dealing with the bullshit parts of it). If those doctors don't like or respect their supervisor they aren't going to work to their full potential, no matter how qualified or sound the decisions of the supervisor are.

I've seen it all the time at work and in business, guys tuning out their bosses not because of the merit of their ideas, but because they rub them the wrong way.

Ask David Blatt. When you have a payroll of tens of millions of dollars and big egos, likeability/respectability matters.

Edit: It's not the only thing that matters, but you get the idea. Casey wouldn't still be in the league if players and other coaches didn't think he knew a shitload about basketball.

Lowry has an AST% of 35.3 this year. That's the highest AST% of his career.

JV has played 1133 minutes this season. No other player has 700+ minutes with an AST% lower than Jonas 2.6.
Problem with AST% is that it literally is the percentage of assists you got compared to the team total. If you're not getting the ball, then you basically can't have a good AST%. It basically depends on your usage.

You think James Johnson could take DJ Augustin?

I have my doubts he has that kind of quickness.

I agree it might have been worth trying (Simply because everyone else was horrible) but your talking about a tweener forward on a tiny and super fast point guard.
