There are only 2 great C in the NBA.
Khem and Freddy are a start, but a good longterm solution at C should be a priority for the Raps.

I think if you draft a center in the first round it needs to be either mobley... or if you are in for the 14th-20th pick you grab a kai jones, or Usman
I'd be disappointed if they draft a C in the 1st round.Mamba Mentality

A center doesn't need to be great to be a threat. Part of the reason we were losing so many games is that if you don't have a center capable of muscling back when another big man tries to just push his way to the basket - and Boucher is great but there's a reason "Slim Duck" is his nickname - then every center becomes Enes Kanter on steroids.

Look at them now with Birch and Gillespie. I think they're 4-1 with them in the lineup? and you just said it, a C doesn't need to be great to be a threat.
I'm not worried about the C position.Last edited by The Great One; Fri Apr 23, 2021, 12:18 PM.Mamba Mentality

But if they instead put Baynes or Stan into the rotation, yeah, the tank could get back on track a little.

Well, they can also easily just play Yuta and Bembry in the backup forward minutes and go to a 9 man rotation, and can keep rolling towards the playoffs.

Boucher is really a 4. And Baynes is probably the worst player in the NBA - not the worst C, the worst player. That's why they struggled all year. They didn't have a competent big.

Birch and Gillespie have helped - against a Thunder team playing Moses Brown as their primary big, a Nets team where half the team was injured and Deandre Jordan (not what he was, but still good) had a fine game, a Magic team playing Wendell Carter Jr. as their lone big and he balled out, and a Spurs win which was genuinely really good. They're not a long-term answer at this point; Birch is a capable backup center who's getting starter minutes right now, and Gillespie is a project.

I have a little interest in Sengun if we're picking 10th or 11th (or 15th) only because 1) he could very well be both the best player available, 2) our need at that spot gives a ready-to-play big man a pretty big opportunity to make a rookie-impact, we're already pretty stacked with long wing players (even if we could also use a backup for Trent), and 3) what he's doing at 18 years old in Turkey is pretty notable (not quite Doncic level, but up there with some of the great Euro prospects).
That said, generally I agree that you should let someone else develop your big men for you, and we'll probably fill that spot in free agency. My actual faves currently are Barnes and Moody.

Sorry i forget who mentioned him but Kofi Cockburn looks great. Ive been reading hes projected mid to late first rnd but i dont see him in first or second round projections on a few sites.
the cons - hes not a shooter and thats a big deal these days and hes a project. Thats it really. The guys a specimen. 7 ft 300 lbs of muscle. Could be like a huge bismack. Have a feeling hes gonna be very reliable physically long term. He’ll only get better.

I loved this comparison I found. "A wider Steven Adams." From the highlights he seems to have good mobility for a 300 pound player. I didn't see him use his left hand for a single shot. Gets up above the rim but not explosive. He is certainly a deterrent in the paint. Can't be moved once he has position. A lot of clips of him leading the pack to be in position for a quick pass and dunk. Bad free throw percentage, which doesn't bode well for extending his range. if he was available in the second round, why not use a pick. He would almost be one of a kind in the NBA.

A 7-ft, reasonably athletic, 300lb guy could at least be useful for 6 fouls on Embiid. Have to account for defending Embiid now in roster construction in the east.
