He said they won't use all the picks when we still had that OKC pick. We ended up trading that for Kelly and Ochai though. So he could still keep all three picks (if we keep our own). And remember in 2016 they had 3 prospects developing all at once and that worked out super well. Fred and Pascal were mostly in the G-league. So we could just send them down there all season if we can't give them the time with the big club.
I epxect a trade to include a pick, we'll see.

Yeah, but in 2016 we had an established roster and were coming off a 56 win season. Next season we're continuing to develop our starters (Scottie, IQ and RJ), some key rotation guys like Gradey & Ochai and then potentially 3 rookies as well? That doesn't seem like a realistic ask of the coaches.

Don't quite understand. If we have 3 picks, one is top 6. None of those are players that will go top 6. Salaun and Carter are projected around our Indy pick, Chomche 2nd round.
This draft is wide open and I, personally, believe the actual draft will be much different than what the mock drafts being floater around say. Golden just posted one that had Salaun as high as 7 (around our pick). We also know Masai was over in France looking at someone (maybe him) during the season. We have consistently picked player above their "mocked" position.

I don't think it's that far fetched to see the raptors taking a 6'9 french man that might have a 3 point shot, in a "weak draft" as high as 6. Now if we somehow have a top 4 pick that might be a bigger reach.

Right that's why you use the 905 and put 1 or 2 guys there for the entire season. And bring them back to the team the following year. I mean if we keep that top 6 pick we have no picks at all in 2025. So we could add someone to the roster that was on the 905 the previous season.

Projections will change after the combine and private workouts (for better or worse). Salaun has already moved up from being projected to go in the second round back when I was talking about him potentially being a top 5 pick to the range of the Indy pick over the last couple weeks. Golden posted a mock draft yesterday from some guy who had Salaun getting picked at 7.

Only problem with this is that Masai didn't seem to keen on using all the picks in the presser which took place around the trade deadline. He's supposed to be making his end of season presser tomorrow so maybe he'll provide an update.

And was there any talk around here at all about the end of season player press conference? Either I missed it or we're slipping fellas.
Pretty sure we traded one of those picks for Ochai after the presser. Might have the timing off.

This season we also had 3 developmental players. Gradey + JFL + Nowell, and you can add Porter to that mix as well so 4 developmental players.

We will just have multiple draft picks to develop instead of draft picks + UDFA (although we may have some of those as well).

                • How much will projections change from private workouts? They'll change for teams, but not for us because they're private. We didn't find out about Skal and Deyonte's poor private workouts until we saw them still sitting in the green room until the end of the 1st round. All we have now is what is available. And just cause some random dude has Ron Holland going #1 and Salaun #7, that view is nowhere close to consensus.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

Yeah Pascal trade happened a day or two before the deadline. That's when we got the presser. Then on the deadline we traded that one pick for Ochai/Kelly.

Info gets leaked pretty damn regularly from workouts and projections change based on that. We all knew Scottie had a great workout with us and Suggs had a bad one before the draft happened.

Skal and Deyonte Davis is a cautionary tale for sure. Anyways Powell and Siakam weren't "projects" when we drafted them. Criticism at that time was that we didn't go for exciting, younger, high potential prospect.

unless we disagree on what "project" is
Skal is another great example of drafting for physical tools vs. skill/BBIQ. He even played at Kentucky but he sucked his freshman year. That should've been a red flag. Embiid is the other rare guy with tremendous physical tools, but embryonic ball skills, who did pan out. Have to give him props for working on his game in the summers with Drew Hanlen.

                            mental athleticism is interesting concept.
This was excellent. Never watched JJ before, but I'm starting now.

I think Edey is a pretty safe bet at 31, and a ridiculous reach in the top 6, so the real discussion is the 18-ish pick we have from Indy, which is probably right around where he'll go unless some late lotto team reaches. I personally would probably shy away from the risk but if the Raps front office takes him, I've seen enough from them to buy in, for sure.
The question in my mind is "How much will he improve over the next two years?" If he improves at half the rate he has over the last 4, he's going to be a handfull for opposing teams to deal with.

Yup there's always guys who move up and down the draft boards between combine and workouts. Really no point in mocks prior to that point other than to familiarize yourself with the players and generally get an idea of where they may get drafted.
