At least we can be sure the tier they are in now is different from when they were at 7. That's good at least, it means they don't consider Suggs (or other 2-4 guy) in a big mash of guys from 4-15 or something. At worst they consider him down a tier in 4-6. Now, that would still be bad, IMO, but the tier they are talking about could be the 2-4 tier for all we know. Nothing to increase concern there, and one tiny tidbit of good news. I'll take it, Bobby is usually a wall.

I think its all good news that we aren't looking to trade down too far if at all and that they clearly want to try and move up

This is strange. You have Curry, Klay and Draymond. You're supposed to trade the 7th pick in a package for a star or high level player that can help you in the Playoffs, not a rookie.

I don't know why some don't give Suggs enough credit. He was a Mr. Football AND Mr. Basketball in the Minnesota. That just goes to show how athletic he is. Because he's from Minnesota, I'm sure he's not opposed at all playing for Toronto. He was dual sport, he didn't devote his craft to basketball until he got to Gonzaga, so he's just scratching the surface when it comes to potential. He's a former quarterback, so you know he's got toughness and he can make reads quickly, which translates to the court. He's a leader, and he wants the ball when the moment is the brightest. It sounds like someone who would thrive here.

Depend on what team would like him. If i was a contender and needed a good backup big i think id give my late 1st for him.
Could be good on Jazz as a backup to Gorbert, with how they have embraced the 3 ball he could fit in real nice.

One thing I found interesting from the Bobby interview was the comment on wanting players that will fit 3,4,5 years down the line instead of one that will fit now and not later. Maybe I'm reading too deep into this, but is this a Suggs vs Mobley comp.? It's more than obvious we need a starting 5 right now, and we have FVV, GTR (Lowry IF he returns).. Can also argue that Mobley fits now and in the future as well I guess.

I think Raptors have 3-4 deals in place and it's a matter of time and choices where they want to go, my gut feeling....Regardless of whatever happens, Suggs won't be a Raptors tmr

Hard to get too much of a read from that interview, really felt like he was tired as hell and didn't wanna be doing it. But this is the RR forums so I'll make one speculation.

I'm thinking our "interest" in Barnes was expressed to get Orlando interested in trading up to make sure they get him, and we will pull the trigger on that if Mobley goes at #3, and take Suggs at #5 plus get some other assets from Orlando.

Orlando seems pretty set at PG and SG with Fultz, Anthony, Harris, Ross, MCW, and Hampton. Can't see them being super high on adding Suggs without moving some of those guys. Barnes on the other hand fills a pretty big need at SF. They don't have single SF on the roster for next season.

We had to put fear in Orlando that we could takes Barnes so they feel they need to trade with us to move up and get him.

A swap in that situation may not be worth them sending us the #8 pick, but it likely is enough for Orlando to toss in a future 1st.

You're interpreting what he said incorrectly. He was talking about taking the player that is the best player now, vs the player they think will be the best 3 years from now, and said they always go with the latter. They want a guy that will be the best 3 years from now and not a guy who may not be good enough anymore 3 years from now. Basically, we're not drafting for need because a guy fits the team better this season than another guy, we're going to take the guy with the best long term outlook. I don't think it has any bearing on Suggs or Mobley, he was just answering the question as asked on what their general draft strategy is, and if you look at past drafts that seems spot on. Siakam was not the guy that was the best at that exact moment, but they forecasted him to be the best 3 years later so they took him.

You said it yourself, they don’t want to pay any other incoming players so getting rid of Shai is a priority, Raps may have leverage.

Per @JakeLFischer the Cavaliers would turn down an offer of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the no. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft for the no. 3 pick.

How realiable Fischer is, that is the question.

However if there is some truth to this then it seems OKC is persistent.
